The Final Vid

Hey Everybody,

I trust everyone is enjoying their summers. NO MORE HOMEWORK! But staying at home doing nothing is boring, so grab yer boards and go outside.

The halls of Mission Dolores are quiet and lonely without the boisterous laughter of the student body. 'Tis very sad. Dudes, I totally miss you. But whenever I do, I just watch this video and remember all the good times we had.

The sound got cut because the song were copyrighted but you can just imagine it.
Anyways, have a great summer and hit me up if you wanna skate!

Raffie D's Article in the Valencia Bay-Farer!!

Whatup foolz,

Our one and only Rafael Antonio Dominguez III, AKA Raffie D, has been published in 826 Valencia's Valencia Bay-Farer Issue #37.

They spelled my name wrong so I changed it but here is a reprint of his article:

Do you think skateboarding is for hoodlums or misfits? If yes, then you are either a cranky old person or you need to learn more about skateboarding. Luckily for students at Mission Dolores School, there is a club that teaches kids all about it.

Shred Francisco is a group started by a guy named Diptesh Soni, who has been skateboarding for ten years. The story goes, Soni brought his board to school and some seventh graders thought it looked cool.

"I told them I was thinking of starting a skateboard club and they were very enthusiastic," said Soni, who had been skateboarding for ten years. Soni likes Shred Francisco because he likes to teach kids what he enjoys most. There are a lot of different kids in the club. One of the kids, named Sergio, is a beginner. Even though he's a beginner, he is still having fun. "it's fun and I like to feel the air," said Sergio.

Soni likes to teach the students about tricks and safety tips. There are different tricks like an ollie, kickflip, 360, 360 flip, manual, nollie, revert, heelflip, and many others. When you do tricks it's good to be safe. Soni teaches people how to be safe. Some tips are to wear safety gear and being cautious is important because you learn by falling. "Don't be afraid to fall," says Soni.

Even though it sometimes has a bad reputation, skateboarding is not for bad people. For example, people like Tony Hawk and other famous skateboarders have gone very far in life. Hawk took a sport that was not very well known and made it much more popular. "I love the fact that there is now a skatepark in almost every city, but it will always have a rebellious/underground edge to it because it is based on individuality." says Hawk.

Nobody knows where skateboarding might go in the future, but luckily kids at Mission Dolores School have a club about skateboarding that helps kids enjoy their life!

If you guys want to learn more about 826 Valencia. Check out their website here: http://826valencia.org/. "826 Valencia is dedicated to supporting students aged 6-18 with their writing skills, and to helping teachers get their students excited about their literary arts." AND it's down the road from us.

826 is run by a writer and all-round-awesome dude named Dave Eggers. Check out his most recent book Zeitoun. It was San Francisco Public Library's choice for One Book One City for September/October.

Raffie D, you da man. Keep doing your thing.

Shred Francisco Shenanigans

Sup Errbody,

The youtube site is UP! Check out the new video (and all the old ones, too). Show it to your friends, and tell them about how awesome you are:

This week we document the gang culture at Mission Dolores, Victor gets sponsored, Derek almost gets the heelflip, and Rene makes it over the ramps! (Only minutes later she sprained her wrist doing it again. That's true determination right there.

Be nice to your Mothers! Not just today, but all the time. You only have one (probably).

LEARN HOW TO OLLIE!

Hey guys,

An update for those of you who don't tear it up with us every Wednesday: We got a flatbar and two kicker ramps, we've been collecting some good footy, and you're all making great strides! It makes me...*sob*....so proud...to see you guys cruisin' out there...

Anyways, some of y'all have been having some trouble with the ollie. It's tricky, I know, but once you get it this concrete jungle we call San Francisco will be yours!
OH, and as Kris Markovich says, "you will fall trying to do it!" Get used to it. Props to Grazie, Mariano Rafai - they fell pretty hard a few times yesterday :D
Props also to Juan - "you're so sexy!" - for his illin' ollies, Derek for his almost heelflip, and all you other kids for sticking with it. No props for Victor cuz he swears too much!

The Broom Sessions

Hey guys,

Everything worked out A-OK yesterday and we got to skate. Not too shabby.

I ordered two kickers and a rail, so now that some of you guys can ollie, it's only a matter of time before you're busting bigspin flips to frontside boardslides on the flatbar nahmsayin?!?

There will be NO Shred Francisco next week. I know, sad day. I'll be kickin' it in the woods with the 6th graders at CYO camp. In the meantime peep this video of Juan, Derek, and Victor tearing up that broom

VIDEOOOO! :O

Good News: I found out I have iMovie! It has opened up a whole WORLD of possibilities to me. So I decided to make this little video of you guys on your shred sleds tearing it up on the MD playground.

Thanks to Carmen for filming, even though she took more footage of the ground than anything else and every clip ends with her giggling away. And thanks to Mr. Robin for helping us out.

If you aren't in this one, make sure you come out next week (hopefully it won't rain on Wednesday) and we'll throw down some hammers for the camera.

Go Forth, My Homies, And Shred!

Big up yaself homeboys and homegirls,

We got all the trucks/wheels/bearings/hardware in last week and today we had a very productive afternoon setting up some completes. We don't have the pads yet (soon enough) but now they're yours so skate away!

Here are some ideas of what you can do with your skateboard:

- Skate to the store to buy milk and bread for your moms
- Learn tre flips and impress your future boyfriend/girlfriend
- Scare your dog (bearings make high frequency sounds that really annoy dogs)
- Listen to Lupe Fiasco's 'Kick Push' without feeling like a poser
- Fall down intentionally and get gnarly scars so you can impress your future boyfriend/girlfriend
- Sell it on eBay so you can use the $$ to buy Black Ops

All valid.
Anyways, below are some pics of the last few months. I'll be in touch when we get the pads and helmets.

Check out the Shredders & Artists section for pictures of the finished products beneath the people who made em.

Here are some pictures of the process over the last few weeks.
Enjoy!
